This symposium series brings together scholars and researchers to discuss current or historical issues pertaining to Global Hong Kong. The goal is to engage and entice interests among faculties, students and the general public about Hong Kong in comparison and in connection to other societies.
Seminar Series:
What is Hong Kong?
Ideas that Matter
Through intensive and in-depth discussion-oriented seminars, we explore the fundamental question: “What is Hong Kong?” Our starting point is that Hong Kong, as an object of scholarly inquiry, is more than a self-evident geographically-bounded location and society. What Hong Kong is and what knowledge we produce about it depend on the conceptual and theoretical lenses we deploy. This seminar series features scholars who may or may not work on Hong Kong, but whose scholarship may inspire new directions and agendas for Global Hong Kong Studies. Participants will read pre-circulated readings assigned by the speakers, and should come prepared for critical dialogues.
